For our April field trip we attended the Butterfly Pavilion with our homeschool group. The kids had so much fun learning about butterflies, spiders, and all of the different insects. We started off the day attending a "Buggy Basics I" class where the children learned about the different types of invertebrates (an animal lacking a backbone) including a Madagascar Hissing cockroach. Then we had a picnic lunch outside before we walked through the Butterfly Pavilion.
Once inside we started off in the "insects" room which had been remodeled since the last time I had been there. The remodel made it perfect for my little kiddos to be able to look at the different insects up close. They had everything from spiders, beetles, cockroaches, and honey bees. Although my boys were to shy to hold Rosie, we did get to see the famous tarantula.
Next we moved under sea to the aquarium section where Jobe got to pet a star fish. I even got this cool picture of a sea urchin.
Finally we made it to the butterflies habitat (my favorite). This amazing room is filled with all kinds of butterflies that fly around and don't be surprised if one even lands on you.
Now it wouldn't be any fun without ending the day with play! As we ended our tour of the Butterfly Pavilion the kids played on giant insects and ran through a maze. This was a great way for them to run off some energy from this eventful day.
I am always in awe of the beauty of God's creation! Just like the transformation from caterpillar to butterfly is so beautiful.
